Activa Environnement was contracted by EDF EN Canada to carry out bird and bat monitoring for the Nicolas-Riou Wind Farm (Lower St. Lawrence region) during the project’s first year of operations.

Activa Environnement will be responsible for assessing bird and bat mortality rates that might be attributable to the presence and operation of wind turbines as well as for identifying the turbines responsible for mortalities (if any) during sensitive periods for birds and bats. Lastly, the monitoring effort also aims to document how migrating birds behave when they approach the wind farm.

Pioneer and leader in the clean energy market, EDF EN Canada was awarded eight wind projects in the Hydro-Québec call for tenders, including Nicolas-Riou. With 65 Vestas V117 turbines and a total rated capacity of 224.25 MW, this project represents an investment of approximately $500M.
